providing a safe space

Counselling Services

Attending counselling for the first time, or even if you’ve attended in the past, can be an intimidating and uncertain experience. If you’re feeling anxious about the process, you are not alone. To help alleviate any potential anxiety, please read through the information provided below.

Your First Session

When you arrive, please have a seat in the waiting area and I’ll greet you when it’s time for your appointment. We’ll review some paperwork together, including consent forms, limits of confidentiality, and intake information.

This first session is really just an opportunity for us to meet, make sure this is a good counsellor-client fit for you, and to set some goals for our work together. Please rest assured that there are no expectations.

Not sure what to say or where to start? Don’t worry, we’ll figure that out together. Just remember that you are deserving of this time and space. Positive change is on the horizon.

Subsequent Sessions

In session, you will find that I practice generally within the same few modalities:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Solution-focused Therapy.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

CBT is based on the relationship between thoughts, feelings/emotions, and behaviours. Core beliefs, cognitive distortions and automatic (negative) thinking are discussed. Tools provided are often related to identifying and replacing problematic thinking, changing perspectives, letting go of what we can’t control, and coping with difficult emotions.

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy

ACT focuses on helping clients behave more in line with their values. Sessions often focus on identifying core values, implementing more authentic behaviour in relation to these values, and letting go of what is outside of our control. ACT will also help you identify and manage negative, anxious, and depressive thinking.

Solution Focused
Therapy

In SFT we’ll identify your strengths and focus on a situation as it currently is, identifying positive outcomes and appropriate solutions.

Services Offered

If you’re unsure of what your specific needs are, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We can discuss how I can be of help and/or identify other appropriate supports.
